After the first production ChevroletCorvette Stingray coupe sold for $1.05 million at a Barrett-Jackson auction earlier this year, expectations were high as the first convertible variant crossed the block at the Palm Beach Barrett-Jackson auction.
The winning bid for the first Chevrolet Corvette Stingray convertible was $1,000,000 – just $50,000 shy of its coupe counterpart. The winner? Rick Hendrick yet again, the NASCAR team owner who also took home the first production coupe.
Proceeds from the sale will benefit the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute, which General Motors has sent nearly $6 million in support over the last 15 years.
The Chevrolet Corvette Stingray convertible made its world premiere earlier last month at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show.
