It’s no surprise that Infiniti has brought the 2014 QX60 Hybrid to New York, as we anticipated the SUV formerly known as the JX35 would get a hybrid version. What is surprising though, is that Infiniti announced the QX60 Hybrid would cost about $3000 more than the non-hybrid model when it goes on sale in late 2013, which means the starting price would cost about anywhere around $45,000.
Like the Pathfinder Hybrid, the QX60 will be motivated by a supercharged 2.5-liter I-4, which is supplemented by a 15-kW electric motor and compact lithium-ion battery. Combined output of the system is rated at 250 hp and 243 lb-ft of torque. Managing power output from the engine and electric motor is Infiniti’s Direct Response Hybrid, while an Intelligent Regenerative Braking System helps recharge the battery. Infiniti estimates 26 mpg combined for the QX60 Hybrid for front- and all-wheel drive models, and with its 19.5-gallon fuel tank, the SUV is expected to travel up to 526 miles. The lithium-ion battery is tucked beneath the third-row seat, and while that usually means interior space is sacrificed, that’s not the case in the QX60, which has the same interior dimensions as the V-6 powered variant. The battery doesn’t impose on the sliding second row, either.
The QX60 virtually looks the same as the standard version, except for hybrid badges on the front quarter panels. Automatic HID headlights are standard along with foglights, LED taillights, power rear liftgate, power moonroof, leather seating, and heated front seats. In the QX60, the standard 7-inch vehicle information display shows hybrid power. Optional features include a panoramic moonroof, heated rear seats, heated steering wheel, and Bose sound system. Pricing details should be revealed closer to the QX60’s launch later this year.
