Bentley’s upcoming SUV to have a plug-in hybrid variant

Bentley is in the final stages of deciding the fate of the proposed SUV, the first of its kind in the British marque’s illustrious history.
Everybody who are close to the development are pretty confident about the Bentley SUV becoming a reality. The Bentley EXP 9 F concept which was unveiled at last year’s Geneva Motor Show had received some harsh comments and views regarding its design.
Nevertheless, Bentley says that there are more than 2,000 prospective customers who are already willing to write a cheque even without knowing how the production model would look like. This has given the Crewe based car maker enough confidence to sign off the SUV for production, but not before a redesign.
While the exact specifications and final design are not known, Mr. Kevin Rose, board member in-charge of sales and marketing, Bentley, told Caradvice.com.au that a plug-in hybrid version of the SUV is a certainty.
He said, “We’ll probably bring an SUV to market, and that may be the first time we come with a plug-in hybrid. That is the sort of technology we see would be better for Bentley globally.”
The yet to be named Bentley SUV, if signed for production, could be launched in the later part of 2015. The car would share its platform and hybrid technology with the next gen Audi Q7 and the VW Touareg.
Bentley is looking to improve its reach and stop its existing customers from migrating to another brand for their SUV needs.
